Pets can play a significant role in a person’s life. Many people are devoted to their dogs, cats, goldfish or gecko’s.
Whilst we do not object to tenants keeping pets within their home, not all of our accommodation is suited to keeping pets, safely or hygienically. This could be the case if you live in a property with a communal area and do not have access to your own garden.
So, please think carefully before you bring a pet into your home and always seek our permission first.
In consultation with our Tenants’ Forum, we have developed a Pets Policy. This details which pets are permitted in which type of location. We would recommend that all tenants read our Pets Policy before purchasing or acquiring a pet.
Cornwall Housing will consider the impact a pet may have upon your home and neighbourhood. So, if you are considering a dog or cat, then you will also need to consider:
- how and where the animal will go to the toilet
- how and where they will gain exercise
- that you will be responsible for all of your pets mess, noise and behaviour
In most cases, Cornwall Housing will support your request for a pet. This is providing that the type of pet you are seeking fits with the accommodation you have. If you are uncertain and would like further advice, then please contact your Housing Officer.
- Under the terms of your Tenancy Agreement you are required to obtain our permission to obtain and keep a Pet within your home. So, to help this process we have developed this form for you to submit
We will aim to respond to a completed pets form within 5 working days to confirm our permission for a pet.
