Covid19 tenant support
Support for Cornwall Council Tenants affected by the Covid-19
We know many tenants are worried about their jobs, their finances and getting into debt. Cornwall Council, as the largest social landlord in Cornwall, has declared the following commitment to support tenants impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic - and through its management agency Cornwall Housing Ltd will:
- Keep tenants secure in their home: No-one will be evicted from one of our homes as a result of financial hardship caused by coronavirus, where they are working (or engaging) with Cornwall Housing Ltd to get their payments back on track.
- Help people to get the support they need: Cornwall Council and Cornwall Housing Ltd are helping their tenants to access benefits. Inclusion Advisors have been providing support to tenants who are claiming Universal Credit for the first time and any others that need support with welfare benefits, money advice, debt reduction and support into employment.
- Act compassionately and quickly where tenants are struggling Cornwall Housing Ltd will work with any tenant who is struggling to make arrangements to pay rent that is manageable for them in the long term. Legal action will only be taken in serious circumstances – for example, as a last resort when a tenant will not agree a plan with Cornwall Housing Ltd to help them pay their rent.
If you are unable or struggling to pay your rent for any reason you should visit Cornwall Housing Ltd ‘Struggling to pay?’ or call our Rent Management Officers on 0300 1234 161.
Please do not ignore the problem, it will not go away!
