Garden of the Year Competition 2024

We had a great response this year, with a mix of different types of gardens entering, including two communal areas. Members of our Tenants’ Forum look through all the entries and award 1st, 2nd & 3rd places.  We visit these winners, to present them with a certificate and shopping voucher.

Garden Competition 2024 Winners

1st Prize - Teresa & Shaun, St Newlyn East

Presentation to Teresa & Shaun by John, Tenant Forum member

Twin brother & sister have been tenants for over 60 years.  They were really shocked to have won and said the garden was overgrown with brambles when they moved in and this recognition had made all their hard work worthwhile.

Shaun said gardening is worth the effort and keeping it in good condition.  They would encourage others to enter the competition next year.

2nd Prize - Angie from Padstow

Presentation to Angie by Bridget, Tenant Forum member

Angie said to help her sleep during challenging times she started to spend more time in the garden. She found a good session in the garden was enjoyable and made her tired.

She would recommend that other residents start by looking at the view outside their windows and make that a pleasant place and then extend further.  Working in the garden gives you a real sense of achievement

3rd Prize - Veronica from Kingsand

Presentation to Veronica by Paul, Tenant Forum member

Veronica was shocked but pleasantly surprised to win a prize after entering this year's competition.

She would recommend that all make their outside space an extension of their home filled with friends and family, watching the flowers develop.

Different outside spaces entered this year

Community garden in Polperro
Smaller gardens
Vegetable garden

All entrants have been recognised for all their hard work and certificates have been posted.
