Happy 100th Birthday Roy!

A Cornwall Housing resident, Roy, has recently celebrated his 100th birthday!

Cornwall Housing Managing Director Su was pleased to visit Roy at his home and hear some of his stories about his varied life. Thank you to Roy's neighbour Paul for arranging the visit.

Roy was born in Camborne in 1922 and grew up in Devonport, where he has fond memories.

After being persuaded by some friends, Roy joined the Army aged 18. He was nicknamed ‘kid’ by his friends as they saw him like their kid brother.

During World War II, Roy worked as a cook after his superiors found out he had baking skills. He travelled across Europe during his time in the forces and was posted in Germany for 12 years after the war ended.

It was only after he was told he was being posted to Hong Kong that Roy left the Army, as his wife at the time wasn’t keen about the move.

Roy has lived across the UK, but moved back to Cornwall due to his late wife’s health so they could be in the countryside. Roy loves his home near St Mellion and says the neighbourhood has a wonderful community. Roy is full of life and quite the computer whiz – still ordering his Tesco shopping online each week.

Happy Birthday Roy, we wish you all the best!
