Cornwall Housing provides digital devices to residents in need

We have secured funding to gift digital devices to residents, as part of our Digital Inclusion project.

Cornwall Housing agreed to fund more than 20 tablets and my-fi devices, using their partnership funds with the UK’s largest supplier of building materials, Travis Perkins Ltd.

The devices have been given to residents in need across Cornwall, to help them connect with others, search for jobs, do online training and courses, and access health and wellbeing activities and information.

If anyone needed assistance to set up their devices, they were directed to The Digital Cornwall Programme run by Cornwall Council. This service offers free, tailored support over the telephone or online, to enhance technical skills.

Anyone can use Digital Cornwall’s services. To discuss how your digital needs can be supported, contact Kym Ley, on 07973 497102 or email digitalinclusion@cornwall.gov.uk.

Some of the residents shared how receiving the devices has improved their lives:

“Thank you for giving me a chance to widen my learning. I have used my tablet for cooking sessions, a First Aid Course, Creative Writing English, online Art sessions and I will be starting a Child Behavioural Course. I also use it for emails. It has helped me with my confidence and to be around people I don’t know as I rarely leave the house due to disability. It has also helped my mental health problems.” (Antoinette Tolley)

“I am happy to be given an opportunity to use the tablet for my YFM course. I am now doing an Open Mentoring course with the Women’s Centre. I would not be able to achieve this without the tablet. Thank you.” (Louise Allerton)

“Receiving the tablet has been a life saver. I can now use it to do online courses, job search and more courses. Thank you so much, it truly is life changing to be able to access the internet independently and not have to worry about how to do future courses.” (Christina Alleyne)
