This week, we’re supporting National Involvement Week - an initiative that celebrates tenant and resident involvement and engagement across the UK.

Hosted by TPAS (the tenant engagement experts), the week offers learning and networking opportunities, showcasing how tenant-led involvement shapes housing services. You can participate in various events, like the Scrutiny Conference, and get involved by sharing your own stories. Read more about TPAS National Involvement Week.

Get involved with us!

TPAS National Involvement Week is a chance to explore new ways to influence local housing decisions, making it the perfect time to get involved with us! You could shape the future of Cornwall Housing by joining our Scrutiny Panel, Tenants’ Forum, Communications Crew, or by taking part in focus groups, surveys, or attending community meetings. It’s all about giving you a voice and a way to make meaningful change.

How can I get involved?

Residents play an important role in shaping the services we provide, and there are opportunities for everyone to get involved at a level that suits you. We offer 4 levels of involvement to fit your lifestyle and preferences…

·       Asked: Usually from home, this level involves quick surveys (online, phone, or doorstep). It’s a one-off commitment of 15-30 minutes, and we’ll invite a sample of tenants to participate.

·       Involved: A bit more of a commitment, this can involve attending meetings or helping at events. You might dedicate a half or full day, offering your views and experiences to improve your community.

·       Invested: For those who want to get hands-on, this level includes joining our Tenants’ Forum or Scrutiny Panel. These groups meet online or in person at least four times a year, working directly with Cornwall Housing to hold us accountable and make sure we’re doing things right.

·       Listened to: If none of the above fits your availability, don’t worry! Our front-line staff are committed to capturing your thoughts through their day-to-day interactions with you.

What’s it like to get invested?

Our ‘invested’ level of involvement is all about getting hands on. We’ve asked some of our dedicated residents to share their experiences of what it’s really like to get invested with Cornwall Housing:

John Harris, Chair of the Tenants’ Forum, said: "Being part of the Tenants’ Forum has been a rewarding experience. It’s not just about attending meetings, but about making a real difference to other residents like me. Recently, we completed a project to review the complaints process. This is an example of the Tenants’ Forum using its own mandate to scrutinise aspects of the organisation. I encourage anyone to join and come observe a forum meeting – it’s a great way to see how things work."

Meanwhile, Shane, Chair of our Scrutiny Panel, is heading to the TPAS Scrutiny Conference this week. He shared: "Attending the TPAS conference is an exciting opportunity to learn and bring new ideas back to our Scrutiny Panel. Our team has been focusing on customer service improvement, and I’m looking forward to sharing our progress and learning from others across the country."

What if I don’t have much spare time, but still want to get involved?

If you’re struck for time, you could join our Communications Crew. All you’d need to do is give us monthly online feedback on our articles, to help us get our messages right. Justin, one of our Communications Crew members, said: “Being part of the Communications Crew has been a great experience. I joined because I wanted to offer a tenant’s perspective, which can be different from staff. It’s a low-commitment role, and it’s quick and easy to share feedback - usually just an hour of my time.”
