New repairs service goes live

istock-1331101915
A new way of delivering everyday repairs starts tomorrow - 1 March.

After many months of planning, and discussions with residents about how to improve the service, new repairs contractors start to take over from Corserv Facilities:

  • WMS in Mid and West Cornwall,
  • Cardo in Northeast Cornwall, and
  • MD Group in Southeast Cornwall.

This new way of working will reduce travelling time and enable each contractor to develop a thorough understanding of tenants’ needs in their area. All 3 contractors have local bases in Cornwall and in recent weeks have been out and about in their patches, meeting residents, listening to their concerns and discussing ideas for improvements.

To ensure the switchover goes smoothly, Cornwall Housing has initiated a gradual phasing of repairs, this means we will only be accepting emergency repairs until 9 March, and then urgent repairs will resume in line with our Interim Repairs Policy.

The next major Repairs Project milestone is on 1 April when CCS (Correct Contract Services) takes over responsibility for gas servicing & heating repairs across the county. From 2026, the company will also provide 5-year electrical testing for all CHL’s 10,500 homes.

CHL’s Interim Repairs Policy, which prioritises emergency and urgent repairs, will remain in place while the 4 contractors settle into their new roles - getting to know tenants, assessing their needs and working with local suppliers.

Ian Frazer, Executive Director of Assets, said: “We are very pleased to have reached this goal to radically change the way we carry out repairs for our residents in Cornwall. However, the new contractors starting with us marks the true beginning of this journey and we expect the weeks and months ahead to bring us new challenges as we all get used to a different way of working. We’d like to sincerely thank our residents in advance for their understanding and those who have been involved in the repairs project to date for their invaluable input.”

To report an emergency repair, please call 0300 1234 161.

An emergency repair includes: uncontainable water/roof leaks, total loss of heating or hot water (in winter), exposed or dangerous wires, total loss of water, no electricity, blocked or damaged flu/chimney or a blocked/leaking or damaged toilet when there is only one in the home.

We thank residents for their patience while we make this very important change to our repairs service.
