We have successfully let all 15 of the new affordable homes at Urban Terrace, Callington and our residents are moving into their brand-new homes.
Former residents were given first priority, ensuring they could return to their community. Five of the 15 residents were original tenants with one delighted resident saying, "It's a beautiful house and well worth the wait. It means everything to us to come home.”
Ruth Ayre, our Voids and Lettings Manager said: “I had the lovely job of re-letting the new homes with our Area Housing Officer. This is the most rewarding part of my job - being able to hand over the keys. Especially to tenants who have been waiting to return to their homes. It’s wonderful to see the looks on their faces.”
Welcoming the new homes, Olly Monk, Cornwall Council portfolio holder for housing and planning said “The previous, defective properties have been replaced with good quality affordable houses and flats for social rent to local people and provide safe, secure and healthy places for residents.”
Built by Cornwall Council working with contractor Classic Builders, the homes are modern, energy-efficient, and built to last. Each home is highly insulated and equipped with low-carbon air source heat pumps, making them cost-effective and environmentally friendly.
Kellie Webb, our Acquisitions Team Leader, added: "The houses are of a really high quality, and my role has been to ensure they meet those standards.”
The project also includes green and sustainable features like landscaping, tree planting, bee bricks, and bird boxes to boost biodiversity. Throughout the redevelopment, we provided subsidised housing for displaced residents to continue to support the community.
