Kinsman and Treningle Tenants and Residents Association (TRA), Cornwall Housing and Devon & Cornwall Police have been working together to raise funds to install CCTV at the Community Hub in Bodmin. The system aims to deter vandalism and provide a sense of security for all visitors to the Community Hub.

Kinsman and Treningle TRA are committed to making their Community Hub a place where everyone feels safe and comfortable. Recently, the Hub has faced numerous bouts of vandalism, including broken windows and letter box fires. The TRA has been keen to install CCTV to monitor the premises, ensuring that any incidents can be promptly reported to the police.

Jackie, local resident and TRA Secretary, has been working hard to secure funding to make the Community Hub safe and enjoyable for local residents. Her efforts, supported by other members of the TRA, have resulted in over £19,000 of financial backing from various sources including the National Lottery Community Fund, the Voluntary, Community & Social Enterprises (VCSE) Health Improvement Fund, and Cornwall Community Foundation. Around £1000 of this funding has been allocated specifically for the purchase and installation of the CCTV system, set to be up and running by the end of July. The rest will be used towards running costs for the Hub, as well as clubs and events.

Jackie has been in regular contact with the Housing Management team at Cornwall Housing, who maintain the Community Hub building. Cornwall Housing have agreed to fund the annual maintenance of the CCTV going forwards, and erect signage to raise awareness of the new system.

Cornwall Housing have also worked with the local police to complete an application for Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA) funding. POCA funding is available to support Community Groups, like the TRA at Kinsman and Treningle, to invest in neighbourhoods and improve safety. The funding was awarded because it was recognised by the Senior Lead team at Devon & Cornwall Police as a justified financial resource to support this community project.

Helena Rance, Area Housing Officer at Cornwall Housing, said: “Jackie's efforts to securing the funding for the Community Hub has been amazing. Her determination will provide hugely beneficial resources to the local community. The joint initiative between our Housing Management team, Devon and Cornwall Police and the TRA to get the CCTV system installed highlights our shared commitment to enhancing the safety of the local area and creating a welcoming space for residents to enjoy.”

Jackie added: “Our primary goal is to create a welcoming and safe space for everyone in our community. The installation of CCTV is a crucial step in ensuring that residents feel secure when they visit the Community Hub. We've worked tirelessly to secure the necessary funding, and with the support of our partners and community members, we can now provide a safe and fun environment for all.”
