Earlier this summer, Kinsman Estate in Bodmin came alive for its annual community fun day!
Organised by the Kinsman & Treningle Tenants and Residents Associations (TRA), the event was bustling with local families soaking up the sunshine and enjoying a day packed with free activities and treats.
The fun kicked off with a brilliant performance by KBSK Dance School, a group started by Bodmin resident Adie Dove. The school is committed to giving children the opportunity to access the arts, and brings confidence-building dance routines to the Kinsman and Treningle communities.
With the fun in full swing, families were treated to a spread of free food and drinks - sausage rolls, cakes, fruit, and, of course, ice cream from the much-loved ice cream van. Children bounced around on the bouncy castle, and a generous hamper from Bodmin Morrisons was kindly donated to the day's raffle prizes.
A member of our Communications and Engagement team was there to support, with a £100 contribution towards the event and plenty of activities to keep everyone entertained. From a 'guess the weight of the toy' competition, to a game of boules – there was fun for the kids, and the big kids!
Joseph and Robyn Harris from our Scrutiny Panel were in the thick of things too, chatting with residents about the important role the panel plays in reviewing how Cornwall Housing is doing and where we can improve. Residents were also encouraged to take part in our upcoming Neighbourhood Survey.
The Kinsman & Treningle TRA has been working hard to secure funding for their community, securing over £19,000 from sources like the National Lottery Community Fund, the VCSE Health Improvement Fund, and Cornwall Community Foundation. This support not only made the fun day possible but will also help cover the costs of running the local Community Hub and its many clubs.
Debra, Chair of the Kinsman & Treningle TRA, said: “I would like to say how very proud I am of the Fun Day. A lot of hard work goes into providing the event for free every year by a very small number of people. Especially Jackie, our secretary. We would love to have more people involved, even if all you can offer is an hour a month.”
The TRA is always on the lookout for new members to help make the Community Hub and their events even better. If you’re interested in getting involved, send an email to secretary.communityhubtra@outlook.com
