A closure order has been completed at a Cornwall Council home thanks to a a joint working effort between Cornwall Housing’s Neighbourhood Enforcement team, Devon & Cornwall Police and Cornwall Council’s Antisocial Behaviour team.
The tenant has now surrendered the tenancy, meaning that the home has been vacated and can be attended to by Cornwall Housing without legal proceedings.
Closure orders are applied for under the Anti-social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014 and mean that a home can be boarded up so that the tenant cannot return for the time specified by the court. They can be granted if the court is satisfied that a person has or is likely to engage in disorderly, offensive or criminal behaviour on a premises, or that its use has or is likely to result in serious nuisance to members of the public.
Sarah Tiltman, Neighbourhood Enforcement Officer at Cornwall Housing said: “It’s a 3-bedroom disabled adapted bungalow, which was being used as a house for extremely well known and prolific drug users and offenders. So, this is a big win!”
