Residents at Anvil Court, Camelford, are now benefiting from a safer and more reliable electrical system following a major project led by Steve, one of our Electrical Supervisors from our Building Safety Team.

The project was triggered by the partial failure of the communal fuseboard leaving some residents without heating.

The original unit dated back to 1991, making replacement a significant but necessary task. Steve and the contractors he procured, worked quickly to not only replace the failed equipment but also future-proof the system. The new modern fuseboards are now fully compliant with current regulations and designed to allow rapid same-day first time fixes for part replacements and precise fault isolation - meaning future disruptions to residents will be minimised.

Steve said: "We knew we had to act quickly, but we also saw this as an opportunity to raise safety standards. The new unit meets 5-to-10-year compliance requirements and gives us better control over fault management."

The large-scale works required careful planning, including the submission of multiple business cases and risk management strategies to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the 35 residents while the project was underway. The team worked diligently to mitigate risks and keep residents informed through various onsite meetings.

As part of a broader effort, the Building Safety Team continues to engage with residents across Cornwall to encourage property rewiring to bring homes up to modern safety standards. While some residents remain understandably wary about the temporary disruption, positive experiences from projects like Anvil Court are helping to build trust.
