Awaab’s Law – what it means

adobestock_231746476

In December 2020, two-year-old Awaab Ishak lost his life in Rochdale from an illness caused by mould in his home. In response to Awaab’s death, Awaab’s Law has been introduced.

All social housing landlords should be responding to reports of damp and mould in homes and working with residents to address the issues that are causing the problems.  From the 27 October Awaab's Law will ensure that these actions are delivered within strict time frames.

The teams to address the issues causing damp and mould are already in place and Cornwall Housing will continue to:

  • Look into reports of damp and mould quickly
  • Fix any damp and mould issues within set timescales
  • Keep our residents updated whilst the issue is being fixed

If you notice any damp or mould in your home, this should be reported to us in the usual way – by calling us on 0300 1234 161 or by filling out the repair reporting form.

Your safety and well-being are our priority, and we want to ensure that our homes are safe and healthy for all.
