Changes to local litter bins

We’re making changes to the way we manage some of Cornwall’s litter bins on Cornwall Housing land and we want to be upfront with you about what’s happening and why.

Like many other organisations we’re having to make difficult decisions about where and how we spend the budget entrusted to us and need to ensure every pound is spent where it makes the biggest difference, repairing and maintaining our homes in Cornwall, for our residents.

Which is why, having consulted with local town, parish and city councils we have decided that we can no longer support the provision of a small number of isolated litter bins on some of our estates. We have looked for alternative solutions to continue emptying the bins however we cannot find one that is viable for Cornwall Housing.

What happens next?

We know this may be disappointing and it’s not a decision we’ve taken lightly.  We’re working with local town, parish and city councils to transfer ownership of the litter bins where possible and whilst we want to contribute to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of our wider communities, we need to make sure we are spending the money we have, in the right way – on Cornwall’s social housing.

If you notice littering problems in areas where bins once were, this can be reported to Cornwall Council on Forms
