How to spot a scam

Scammers can change their tactics, so it’s important to know how to recognise the warning signs and protect yourself.

We want you to stay safe. There are clear steps you can take if someone claims to be carrying out work on behalf of Cornwall Housing.

⚠️Important reminder: ⚠️

If genuine work is due to be carried out in or on your home, you will always be contacted in advance by Cornwall Housing or one of our approved contractors.

Cornwall Housing contractors will always:

  • Carry official ID badges

  • Wear branded uniform clothing showing their company logo

If someone arrives at your property unexpectedly and you are unsure who they are, you are not obliged to let them into your home.

If in doubt - shut them out.

What to do if you’re unsure

  • 📞 If you are approached by someone suspicious, contact Cornwall Housing immediately on 0300 1234 161

  • ⚠️ If you feel unsafe or threatened, report it to the police straight away

We've had recent reports of scammers in Bodmin, but this advice applies to all Cornwall Housing residents across Cornwall.

Please stay alert and share this information with friends, family and neighbours to help keep everyone safe.
