What is a Community Group?

Community Groups are members of a community that come together with one common interest/goal. They can be formed for many purposes:

  • A temporary group to tackle a particular issue as a 'bigger voice' or hold a one-off event or project.
  • An informal group looking to provide regular social and wellbeing activities for residents.
  • A more formal Community Association looking to meet regularly to address and fight for what their community wants/needs are ongoing.

There may also be other types of groups that specifically suit your community make-up and needs.

How do I know if I have a Community Group already where I live?

The current Community Groups that we work with at Cornwall Housing:

Bodmin- Kinsman and Treningle Tenants and Residents Association

                Bederkesa Social Committee

Callington- Callington Community Group

Falmouth- Penwerris Tenants and Residents Association

Saltash- Oaklands Green Community Group

Truro- New Beginning Community Association (Malabar estate)

           Hendra Community Group

           Tregurra Park Action Group

Wadebridge- Wyndhurst Orchard Residents Committee

There may be others that run independently without support from Cornwall Housing or that we're not aware of. Keep an eye out for any posters in your local area advertising events, or if you have social media you can try searching on there. Alternatively, your local Councillor may be aware of local groups and able to connect you.

How can I set-up a Community Group?

If you currently have no Community Group representing where you live, but feel there's a need for one, get in touch. Our Engagement Officers can have a chat with you to determine the best way forward for your communities needs.
