It’s that time of year again! The Cornwall Housing Garden of the Year Competition – send in your photos and inspire others to be creative with their outside spaces.
We would like to celebrate and recognise our tenants and leaseholders who take pride in their outside spaces, by hosting our annual Garden of the Year competition.
Whatever size or style of your garden, whether it be a balcony window box, patio, vegetable patch, or flowerbeds, everyone is invited to enter! We encourage children to get involved too, with lots of prizes and certificates to be won.

Make sure to take the photos at different times during the growing season to show your outside spaces at their best!
The closing date for all entries will be Friday 26 July 2024. Members from the Cornwall Housing Tenants’ Forum will judge all entries and award the prizes.

Garden Competition 2023 Winners
A message from Christine: "Wow, what a surprise! Thank you to the judges for deciding my efforts are worthy of this prize! It’s not been the best year for gardening, what with the baking hot June and then seemingly nothing but rain since July and then to cap it all, we had storm Antoni in August, which just about finished off my poor hanging baskets! But luckily everything else survived unscathed. I really do love my garden, it’s my ‘happy place’ as they say these days. I would encourage everyone to enjoy growing something, even if it’s just a few pots or a small corner plot. It gets you out in the fresh air, and you can soon become hooked! Give it a try, you never know you might just enjoy it!"

A message from Julie: "I entered this competition because I love gardening and I wanted to show people what can be achieved. One email and a couple of pictures, it only takes a minute. You never know you could win some shopping vouchers like me."
The judges also wanted to recognise Nikki & Marilyn, for transforming an unkept garden to flowers and vegetables at Hillsview, in Polperro. They were both delighted to receive a garden voucher to continue their great work and will update us next year on the continued progress.
A message from Nikki & Marilyn: "Together we have turned an uncultivated plot for 4 flats into 3 gardens. In the top part we installed a small shallow nature pond, and have seeded it with pollinator plants and grasses to attract wildlife and insects. Our efforts were rewarded with newts. Slow worms and lizards. Gardening has not only benefited us with exercise but has turned neighbours into friends through the joy of gardening. Working with others is perfect if you do not have physical fitness or knowledge. We would advise to speak to your neighbours and see if they might be interested in helping do gardens for each other. The pleasure we get makes it worth while. Plus who doesn't like to see flowers and grow some vegetables."
