Our approach to ‘No Mow May’

We are continuing to take a hybrid approach to No Mow May for 2024.

No Mow May is an initiative that encourages people to support nature recovery and improve biodiversity, by letting wildflowers grow during the month of May.

To support the initiative, our contractors and Estate Rangers will be adopting a hybrid approach to grass cutting throughout May. This approach will boost biodiversity, whilst keeping areas used by residents well maintained. Our teams will:

  • Continue to cut grass on our level open spaces used for play and exercise
  • Leave grass uncut around borders of large open spaces and under trees
  • Not cut banks or steep slopes (except alongside footpaths and steps, to ensure safety)
  • Cut around wildflowers in bloom

Alastair Spencer, Neighbourhood Services Manager, said: “Last year we trialled the hybrid approach, which was positively received by residents. It meant we could still support No Mow May, but also maintain our open spaces to allow exercise and play. So, we are working with Cormac and a number of town and parish Councils to adopt the same approach again this year.”
