Residents at Crow's Nest in Penzance now have a new place to sit and enjoy some fresh air, thanks to a bench provided by our partner, WMS.

Cornwall Housing, WMS and Haven Care staff celebrate the new bench with residents of Crow's Nest, PenzanceOn a sunny autumn day, representatives from Cornwall Housing, WMS and Haven Care joined residents Mark and Hayley to celebrate the new addition. It’s already been used by residents having a cup of tea in the sunshine!

Funded through the WMS social value fund and supported by Cornwall Housing's Knowing Our Residents team, the bench has been installed just outside the building's entrance. Made from recycled plastic bottles, it forms part of a new gravelled area which is designed to last for many years to come.

Richard, Manager of Haven Care for Cornwall, said: "This bench is a great addition, offering a wellbeing space for residents. It’s somewhere they can sit away from the main common room when they want some space or privacy.”

Rachel, Crow’s Nest Building Manager, said: "It’s lovely that our residents now have an outside space they can use, which is close by should they need us. The bench is just outside the windows of the common room, so we aren’t far away, but it’s somewhere they can go for some space. It’s also somewhere quiet staff can sit for a coffee on breaks!”

Amanda, Practice Leader at Crow’s Nest added: "It'll get lots of use in the summer - it's a real suntrap."

One resident is a keen gardener, and another loves to cook with fresh homegrown ingredients - so there are discussions about adding a raised bed in the future for growing edible and sensory herbs. This would bring colour and extra privacy to the area. Watch this space!
