As your landlord we are required, by law, to ensure your property remains a safe environment for you to live. Here you can find information about the home safety check, and what it involves.
What gets checked at the home safety check?
We are required to regularly check your home for:
Do you need access to my home?
To ensure your home remains a safe place for you to live we are required to undertake safety checks on a regular basis. Our trained staff will need access to your home, and we will contact you to arrange a convenient time.
Can I change my home safety check appointment?
Please contact us as soon as possible if you need to rearrange or cancel your appointment. It’s really important that we carry out these checks so we will work around you if you have work, caring commitments, and/or medical appointments.
How long will the home safety check take?
This depends on the type of inspection and the size of the house. Contact us if you want to know how long to allow.
Do I have to be home during the safety check?
Yes an adult (person aged over 18 years) will need to be in the home at all times – you can ask a neighbour or friend to be there for you if necessary, but the tradesperson cannot be left alone in your home.
What happens if I don’t want a home safety check?
These checks are a requirement to help keep you safe, and it is part of your tenancy agreement to allow us access. We can work with you to accommodate your needs if it has to be out of working hours.
If I’m supporting a tenant with their home management, and they have a safety check letter, what can I do?
You will need the tenants’ permission to talk to us about their home. If you have permission ask to speak to the ‘No Access’ team to discuss the tenants’ needs. If you don’t already have permission, the tenant needs to contact us in advance, or they need to be present at the time of the call to provide consent.
Why do you have to access my home to service the air-source heating?
It is important that we check your ground-source or air-source heating regularly to ensure that it is working efficiently so that you can continue to have heating and hot water.
