How to use candles and incense safely
Candles are a rising cause of fire. Every year, a growing number of people are killed, or injured because of their careless use. By following these guidelines, you can reduce the risks of fires that come with using candles.
- Never leave candles, incense sticks, or oil burners unattended.
- Don't put them close to anything that can catch fire, such as curtains, paper, furniture, and clothes.
- Always extinguish candles before you leave a room and especially before going to be.
- Always use a suitable fire-resistant holder when burning candles, or incense.
- Candles should always be placed out of the reach of children and away from areas where pets can get to them.
- Place candles on a heat-resistant stable surface and be especially careful with tea lights, which can melt through plastic surfaces like a TV or bath.
- To avoid accidents, keep candles and all naked flames (including matches and lighters) out of the reach of children and pets.
