The Inclusion Advisor team work as part of Cornwall Housing's Rents team. They support tenants who are struggling to manage rent payments.

The team deliver a service to tenants in most priority need that are at risk of losing their tenancy through debt, unemployment, benefit changes, or health and wellbeing issues. The Inclusion Advisors must prioritise working with tenants with rent arrears. However, if you are not in rent arrears, they can still give some information and advice over the phone.

There are many ways the Inclusion Advisors may be able to support you, including:

  • Benefit support
Advice about benefits, checking to see if benefits are correct, and/or exploring whether other benefits can be claimed.

  • Debt advice
The team cannot negotiate with creditors on tenant’s behalf, but they can give advice about dealing with debts and signpost to local help.

  • Funding applications
They can support residents to make claims for discretionary funds, such as for extra help with rent and/or council tax bills if eligible.

  • Referrals & partnership working
Our Inclusion Advisors work with various organisations such as Citizens Advice, the Money Advice Service and Community Energy Plus.

  • Home moving support
They can support tenants to move if they are affected by the bedroom tax and are downsizing.

  • Income maximization and budgeting
Looking at what savings can be made.
